Giant Roosterfish caught at Tropic Star Lodge in Panama. Roosters can be caught on large popping plugs retrieved at super high speeds but it is not easy and it is very rare to catch a big fish. The giant roosters usually come from rocky ledges out of 30-40 feet of water. Use Large rapalas fast trolled (by large I mean 18-28cm!!. (If you use the magnum saltwater rapala with the double hooks I suggest filing down the barbs about 50%) Slow trolling large live bait on a floss through the snoot type rig and a circle hook is probably the most consistantly effective method for the biggest fish. Minimum 50 lb stand-up gear. Trinidad, TLD or Tiagra. Don't wait one second before you apply serious, serious heat!
